The DarkSide ransomware gang issued a public statement that they are apolitical and will vet all the targets before they attacked.
The ransomware gang targeted Colonial Pipeline last week which is one of the major pipelines in US impacting fuel operations throughout the country.
Due to the attack colonial has to shut the operations to recover from the attack.
The US government issued a state of emergency for 18 states affected by the ransomware incident. US East cost receives 45% fuel through these pipelines.
DarkSide will now vet targets before attacking
DarkSide ransomware gang issued a press statement stating that their organization is ‘apolitical’ and the dissociate themselves from any government.
“We are apolitical, we do not participate in geopolitics, do not need to tie us with a defined goverment and look for other our motives.
Our goal is to make money, and not creating problems for society.
From today we introduce moderation and check each company that our partners want to encrypt to avoid social consequences in the future.” – DarkSide gang.
DarkSide is operated as a Ransomware-as-a-Service, which consists of two groups. One group comprised of core operators and developers of the ransomware, and the other is affiliates that are recruited to hack networks and deploy the ransomware.
